Summer in northern China brings refreshing mild weather, making June the ideal season for this Hulunbuir to Mohe cycling tour. Starting out on the Hulunbuir Grassland, you ride across vast, lush green meadows carpeted with wildflowers. Rolling steppes stretch to the horizon, hay meadows ripple in soft breezes, cattle and sheep graze freely, and the winding Morigele River cuts through the emerald grassland like a silver ribbon.
As you pedal north, the open grassland slowly transitions into the primeval forests of the Greater Khingan Range. Deep green birch and larch woods unfold beside the route. This summer cycling adventure takes you along quiet forest roads, where sunlight filters through dense tree canopies. Fresh forest air cools you down while you ride through endless shades of green.
Your cycling path follows the China-Russia border beside the calm Argun River, its clear blue water reflecting the rich green woodland on both banks. Travelling further north, you eventually reach Mohe, China’s northernmost frontier. This cool northern summer brings long daylight hours, perfect for exploring the U-shaped Heilongjiang River bend and peaceful Arctic Village.
This cool summer cycling trip escapes hot southern summers, delivering one of the best summer cycling routes in northern China. The air stays pleasantly cool, with vibrant green scenery all along the way. Every pedal stroke reveals a fresh vista of northern wilderness on this bike tour from Inner Mongolia to Heilongjiang.
Fly into Hulunbuir Hailar Dongshan International Airport (HLD). Convenient connecting flights are available via major hubs including Beijing and Shanghai. Train connections are also available via Harbin or Beijing for travellers who prefer a slower journey.
Mohe offers daily flights to Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province. The slow train between Mohe and Harbin takes over 20 hours. You may also extend your trip in Mohe, a city on the China-Russia border
