If this will be your first cycling trip in Hainan, we highly recommend the West Coast route. This 7-day journey starts in Haikou and ends in Sanya. Escape crowded tourist spots to explore authentic coastal scenery: ancient fishing hamlets, vast salt pans, mangrove wetlands and untouched shorelines. You will experience slow local Hainan life, open sea views, farmland and volcanic landforms. Unlike the busy east coast, the west coast holds a peaceful, raw seaside charm.
Daily distances range from 20km to 120km. The route has only gentle rolling terrain, no steep mountain climbs. Suitable for recreational cyclists used to riding 80–100km per day. Full support vehicle is provided.
The route stays near sea level, with elevation between 0–80 m. Only small, mild rolling hills, no high passes or big climbs. Low total elevation gain for relaxed riding.
Mostly smooth, well-paved provincial and county coastal asphalt roads. Traffic is light. A few short village lanes have minor surface wear; no gravel or off-road sections. Great for road and gravel bikes.
November – March Mild temperatures, low rainfall and clear skies for comfortable cycling.
May – October: Not recommended Hot weather, strong UV, frequent rain and possible typhoons.
