The Scenic Ring Road surrounding Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park traverses nine cities and counties: Sanya, Ledong, Dongfang, Changjiang, Baisha, Danzhou, Qiongzhong, Lingshui and Baoting. The total route stretches approximately 466 km, of which around 197 km consists of newly built or upgraded sections and 269 km utilises existing roadways.
It seamlessly links multiple nature reserves including Limushan, Wuzhishan, Diaoluoshan, Jianfengling and Bawangling. Stringing these scenic gems together, it forms a pearl necklace showcasing the mountain beauty across central and southern Hainan Island.
This 7-day mountain cycling expedition cuts deep into Hainan Island’s rugged central highlands — a loop through Qiongzhong, Baoting, Ledong, Changjiang and Baisha. Over 5 riding days, you’ll cover 466 km with 6,100 m of total elevation gain, tackling rainforest switchbacks, continuous rolling terrain and the iconic Limushan pass. Daily distances range from 60 to 105 km, built for experienced riders with strong climbing legs.
The trip concludes with a transfer back to Haikou, followed by airport drop-off on Day 7.
This is not a leisure ride. With 6,100 m of total climbing and daily distances of 60–105 km, this expedition is designed for experienced long-distance cyclists with solid climbing fitness. Riders should be comfortable sustaining effort on repeated ascents over multi-day back-to-back stages.
Elevation profile of our 466 km Hainan Rainforest cycling challenge: 6,160m total ascent, 6,150m descent, max elevation 720m. Constant rolling terrain with a major summit climb on Day 3, no long flat sections.
Predominantly paved mountain and rural roads with light traffic in the rainforest highlands. Expect shaded forest corridors, rolling switchbacks, and several substantial mountain passes. Surfaces are generally good, with occasional rough patches in remote village sections.
November – March Mild temperatures, low rainfall and clear skies for comfortable cycling.
May – October: Not recommended Hot weather, strong UV, frequent rain and possible typhoons.
