This 1000km Hainan Island cycling loop combines the two iconic cycling corridors of Hainan: the raw, tranquil West Coast and the well-developed East Coast.
Start from Haikou and cycle anti-clock along the west coast: quiet low-traffic roads, tidal salt pans, fishing hamlets, volcanic landforms and untouched shorelines.
After reaching Sanya, take a full rest day to recharge and explore the tropical resort city.
Then head north along the famous Coastal Tourism Road on the East Coast. This section features separated bike lanes, complete roadside amenities, coconut groves and classic postcard beaches.
This journey lets you experience both sides of Hainan in one trip. The west coast delivers authentic, quiet rural coastal scenery, while the east coast offers easy riding, full facilities and iconic tropical sea views. Operated by our local Hainan cycling team, we handle all logistics, accommodation and support throughout your entire island adventure.
Total distance: 1000km over 10 days, including one full rest day in Sanya. Daily riding distances vary, with a mix of longer and shorter stages to balance challenge and sightseeing. The route consists of gentle rolling terrain only, no steep mountain passes. Suitable for recreational cyclists who are comfortable with multi-day long-distance riding. A full support vehicle accompanies the group every day.
The route stays close to sea level, elevation mostly between 0–70 m except Lingshui to Wanning along the east coast: elevation gain 420 m, with matching elevation loss of 430 m.
West Coast segment: Mostly smooth paved provincial & county coastal asphalt roads. Light traffic. A few short village lanes with minor surface wear; no gravel or off-road sections.
East Coast segment: Follows Hainan Coastal Tourism Road with dedicated separated cycling lanes. Smooth asphalt, clear signage, rest stops, public toilets and viewing platforms along the route. The entire loop is fully paved, suitable for road bikes and gravel bikes.
✅ Recommended Season: November – March Mild temperatures, low rainfall and bright sunshine. Perfect for long-distance coastal cycling.
⚠️ Not Recommended: May – October Hot, humid weather, strong UV rays, sudden afternoon showers and typhoon risk.
