This 9-day Yunnan cycling tour takes you across the stunning Yunnan plateau, starting and finishing in Dali. Your journey begins in the ancient city of Dali, the home of Erhai Lake. On day two, you will complete the classic full loop ride around Erhai Lake, enjoying lakeside views, ancient villages and rolling plateau scenery.
Your Yunnan Cycling route continues north toward Heqing and then Lijiang. While in Lijiang, take a break from cycling to visit the iconic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Explore Spruce Meadow and Blue Moon Valley, and watch the famous Impression Lijiang live show directed by Zhang Yimou.
Next, ride from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the world’s deepest river gorges. After your cycling segment, transfer by bus to Shangri‑La (Zhongdian). You will cycle through highland pasture and Tibetan villages around Shangri‑La, before your final ride to Shigu Town. The cycling finishes here, followed by a bus transfer back to Dali for your departure.
The Yunnan cycling tour is designed for intermediate-level riders who love dramatic plateau scenery and cultural discovery. It suits self-confident cyclists comfortable with daily rides of 70–120 km, who want to combine lake cycling, snow mountain sightseeing and Tibetan cultural exploration. If you are eager to experience Yunnan’s diverse landscapes beyond regular tourist routes, this trip is perfect for you.

The best time for this Yunnan cycling tour is April to May and September to October. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and mild temperatures, while autumn delivers crisp air, clear skies and spectacular mountain views around Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Summer (June–August) is rainy and can bring sudden storms on high‑elevation sections; winter (November–March) is cold at altitude with occasional frost, making riding less ideal.
All roads are paved , a perfect riding choice for summer time in China.
The route sits on the Yunnan plateau. Starting in Dali at roughly 1,970 m, you will cycle through Erhai lakeside, then climb to Lijiang at 2,400 m. The highest riding sections reach over 3,300 m around Shangri‑La (Zhongdian). Riders should prepare for gradual altitude gain and thinner air on mountain passes between Lijiang and Shangri‑La.
