Frequently asked questions

We classify this tour as Challenging. Across 9 riding days covering 983 km with approximately 12,960 m of total elevation gain, riders will tackle huge, sustained highland climbs on mountain passes up to Shangri‑La. The two most demanding segments are Lijiang to Haba Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain to Shangri‑La, each with nearly 3,000 m of climbing. Thin high‑altitude air, large elevation swings and remote mountain terrain require excellent endurance and prior high‑altitude cycling experience.

The best time for this Yunnan cycling tour is April to May and September to October. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and mild temperatures, while autumn delivers crisp air, clear skies and spectacular mountain views around Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Summer (June–August) is rainy and can bring sudden storms on high‑elevation sections; winter (November–March) is cold at altitude with occasional frost, making riding less ideal.

All roads are paved , a perfect riding choice for summer time in China.

The route sits on the Yunnan plateau. Starting in Dali at roughly 1,970 m, you will cycle through Erhai lakeside, then climb to Lijiang at 2,400 m. The highest riding sections reach over 3,300 m around Shangri‑La (Zhongdian). Riders should prepare for gradual altitude gain and thinner air on mountain passes between Lijiang and Shangri‑La.

Yes, E-bikes are available for an extra charge. Please reserve your e-bike early as stock is limited.
