Welcome to an extraordinary two-wheeled adventure, where the journey is as spectacular as the destinations. Over 17 days, we will embark on an epic ride spanning tropical islands, mountainous rainforests, and historic coastlines, connecting the sun-drenched beaches of Hainan to the vibrant, neon-lit streets of Macao.
This journey is a tale of two worlds. We begin on Hainan Island, China’s tropical paradise, pedaling from the southern resort city of Sanya northwards. Our route will unveil the island’s stunning diversity: from secluded bays and coastal highways to the challenging climbs and serene beauty of the central highlands around Wuzhishan. We’ll experience the rhythm of local life, savor fresh seafood, and rest in comfortable resorts nestled in nature.
A ferry ride across the Qiongzhou Strait transports us to mainland China’s Leizhou Peninsula and the captivating Guangdong coastline. Here, the adventure takes on a new character as we follow the G228 national road and coastal byways. We’ll cycle through bustling towns, past vast fish farms, ancient volcanic landscapes, and into the heart of the Pearl River Delta.
Our final pedal strokes bring us to the dynamic fusion of Macao, where Portuguese heritage meets Chinese tradition in a dazzling display of culture, cuisine, and architecture. This tour is meticulously designed for cyclists seeking a profound challenge—covering over 1,400 kilometers—balanced with immersive cultural experiences and stays in quality hotels that offer a perfect respite at the end of each rewarding day.
Prepare to push your limits, feast your senses, and create unforgettable memories on this incredible traverse from island serenity to metropolitan energy.
With a bike fitting and route briefing, today is for acclimating to the island air, dipping toes in the South China Sea, and building anticipation for the ride ahead.
The real journey begins! We cycle north along Hainan’s spectacular east coast, passing the luxurious curves of Haitang Bay and the crystalline waters of Clear Water Bay. A stunning 85km introduction.
Turning inland, the landscape begins to shift from coastal plains to green, rolling hills as we make our way towards the mountainous heart of the island. A shorter 55km ride allows us to soak in the changing scenery.
Today we conquer the climb into Hainan’s central highlands, heading towards the famed Wuzhishan (Five Finger Mountain) region. The 70km route offers challenging climbs rewarded with breathtaking rainforest views and cooler temperatures.
Traversing the lush, remote interior, we ride through serene landscapes and minority villages on our 80km journey to Qiongzhong, deep in the island's green heart.
One of the most demanding and rewarding stages (95km) takes us through the rural village of Yaozicun and into the less-traveled county of Baisha, showcasing Hainan’s authentic, unspoiled beauty.
Exiting the mountains, we join main routes (G361, S315) for a 90km ride to the north-west coast and the astonishing, man-made Ocean Flower Island. A surreal and impressive sight.
Prepare for the longest ride of the journey, a true test of endurance and a spectacular 115-kilometer traverse along the Hainan Tourism Road. Today is about finding your rhythm against the backdrop of the open sea. The route unfolds with a mix of long, flat straights and gentle rollers, offering expansive views of the island’s western shoreline. Feel the steady sea breeze as you pass through fishing villages and by vast salt pans, witnessing a more local and industrious side of Hainan’s coast. The sense of accomplishment upon reaching Lingao will be immense, capping off a monumental day in the saddle.
The final pedal strokes on Hainan await! A relatively shorter 90km ride along the northern coast brings the island portion of our epic tour to a triumphant close. The Hainan Tourism Road offers one last serving of breezy, scenic cycling before the skyline of Haikou, the island's vibrant capital, emerges on the horizon. Transition from coastal serenity to urban energy as you cross the iconic Century Bridge, a symbolic gateway into the city. Celebrate your incredible circumnavigation of Hainan Island, from its southern tip to its northern capital, with the comforts and delights of a well-earned metropolitan finish.
A vital day of rest, exploration, and preparation for the mainland crossing. Discover Haikou’s historical Qilou Old Streets and savor the local Hainanese cuisine.

Today's route is a dynamic mix of open road cycling and immersive cultural snapshots, passing through bustling towns and verdant farmland. The rewarding destination is the Yangxi region, celebrated for its therapeutic hot springs. After a full day of effort, the promise of a soothing soak adds a luxurious motivation to every pedal stroke. Arrive at your spa-focused hotel ready to relax and rejuvenate tired muscles.
Prepare for the longest leg of the mainland journey—a formidable 120km push that showcases the dramatic shift in landscape along the South China Sea.
