About this tour

Pedal Through the Sky: A 7-Day Journey Across Western Sichuan’s Heart

Imagine a week where every pedal stroke tells a story, where the journey is stitched together not just by roads, but by memories unfolding between sky and earth. This 7-day Western Sichuan loop is designed for the heart that yearns to move freely—a blend of gentle greenways, high mountain passes, hidden valleys, and open grasslands. Starting with a 100km ride along Chengdu’s “green necklace” and winding all the way to the sacred slopes of Gongga, this trip invites you to measure landscapes with your wheels and fill your soul with starlight. From cycling in the shadow of Balang Mountain to resting in panda-dotted valleys, wandering through Tibetan villages, and crossing flower-filled pastures, you’ll touch a side of Sichuan that guidebooks can’t capture—only your own rhythm can.

Each day is framed by careful planning but leaves room for the unexpected. After arriving in Chengdu, you’ll ride the stunning Tianfu Greenway—a 100-kilometer ribbon of parks, art-filled bridges, and urban oases. Then, as you move higher, you’ll spend a night in Wolong, sharing the valley with pandas, before tackling the mighty Balang Mountain pass at 4,480 meters. From there, the route carries you to the outdoor haven of Siguniangshan Town, onward to the cultural richness of Danba and Bamei, across the sweeping Tagong Grassland, and finally through Kangding before returning to the city. Included is a support vehicle, guidance, and thoughtfully chosen stops; not included are flights, meals outside those mentioned, and personal extras—so you can travel light, with your focus entirely on the horizon.

This journey is as much about connection as it is about challenge. You’ll pass through valleys where spring comes early, pedal under wide-open skies, and rest in places where Tibetan culture feels alive in the architecture, the food, and the faces you meet. Whether it’s watching light dance on a highland lake, catching your breath on a quiet mountain road, or sharing stories under a blanket of stars, this tour is designed to leave you not just with photos, but with a quiet sense of belonging—to the land, to the road, and to the version of yourself that emerges when the city is far behind. Come ride, breathe, and remember what it feels like to be wonderfully, wildly free.

Highlights

  • Ride through vibrant valleys where spring awakens early, and pedal under endless skies that stretch to the horizon.
  • Immerse in living Tibetan culture—seen in architecture, tasted in local food, and felt in the warmth of encounters along the way.
  • Pause in moments of pure wonder: watch light ripple across highland lakes, catch your breath on silent mountain roads, and share stories beneath star-filled skies.
  • Return not just with photographs, but with a quiet sense of belonging—to the land, the journey, and the freer self that emerges when the city fades from view.

Itinerary

The Chengdu Ring Greenway is not just a road—it’s a 100-kilometer ecological corridor winding along the city’s Fourth Ring Road. As the "crown jewel" of the Tianfu Greenway system, it’s a visual feast featuring 78 uniquely designed overpasses, each a work of art, and links 121 ecological parks—from Guixi Park’s urban greenery to Qinglong Lake’s wetlands, from the shimmering waters of Jincheng Lake to the flower fields of Sansheng Township and the historic charm of Shu Dao Tongqu Garden. Every turn tells a different story, stitching together a breathtaking "green necklace" around Chengdu.

After a gentle acclimatization night in Wolong Town (2,000m), nestled in the same valley as giant pandas, we’ll climb over 4,480-meter-high Balang Mountain to reach Siguniangshan Town, a gateway to outdoor adventures. The ride begins gently as we enter Denglai Valley—a sheltered canyon where spring arrives early. Here, crisp mountain air replaces the plateau wind, and the trail unfolds like a living gallery: tender buds along streams, wildflowers peeking through rocks, and a soothing warmth that makes every pedal stroke a joy.
